My aunt Ruma sent me this picture of Shanks sitting in a chair. Not that interesting in itself but astounding if you know that he walked to that chair. 3 days after a major 6 hour surgery - that is amazing. TW. When Dr Nundy descended on us this morning with his gaggle of young docs, he looked over Shanks and then fixed the gaggle with a beady eye and barked "Thyagarajan, why has this man had such a good recovery?". And into the silence that met that question, he said "Exercise!. This man walks 30 minutes every day. That's the only reason". He sneaked a look at me for confirmation, beamed at everyone and left.
For all you sedentary types: Get up and start walking. Now.
Wow. That's a major wake-up call. Now if only I could find some way to go sleep-walking wouldn't that be ideal? Or maybe live in some place where going for walks around 10 pm would be restful and invigorating instead of just scary. That's really, really great. Hugs all around.

ReplyDelete(Channeling DeNiro in "Taxi Driver" with corresponding maniacal leer)...Ye tawkin teh me???
I hear you. Maybe they'll invent something for these chairs in front of the pc, with a timer that will deliver a mild electric shock if one's butt has been anchored to it too long.
Butt I digress! FANTASTIC PICTURE AND EVEN MORE FANTASTIC UPDATES. Keeping fingers toes and eyes crossed -- post-op recovery has to be managed really well and it sounds like you guys are doing a superb job. Kudos all around, especially to Dear Shankar Uncle!
Hi Chitra and Manjula: I can see innovative solutions are required to get those muscles moving.
ReplyDeleteChitra, I really like the idea of plaits (maybe better than eyes being crossed..:)). Do you think we should get those little braids like they ones you can get done on Thai beaches?
Hi Shankarda,
ReplyDeleteNot sure if my comment got posted a while back. I had wr sticking outitten that I had not wanted to disturb you in the hospital but now find that you are doing great. And perhaps even having quite a good time even if there are odd things s.
